A study in contrasts - M94 and UGC 3697 - Cloudy Nights
1 天前 · UGC 3697 was a bit of a bear to tease out. A near-threshold star just to its northeast finally began to wink into view and got consistent. That gave the galaxy’s position away. After maybe 20 minutes under the hood a thin faint line of perhaps 1.2’, PA 75° puffed in averted vision. It was maddeningly inconsistent but kept showing up.
Integral Sign Galaxy (UGC 3697) - Deep⋆Sky Corner
UGC 3697 is a low-mass, Sd spiral galaxy. It shows a super thin disk morphology, that we see edge-on. It is warped like a potato chip or a music record that was too long in the sun. Some degree of warping is observed in a large fraction of galaxies, but only few are warped as …
Warped Disk of Galaxy UGC 3697 - National Radio Astronomy …
2000年5月28日 · The “Integral Sign” galaxy, UGC 3697 is an edge-on spiral galaxy with an unusually pronounced warp in both its stellar and gaseous disks. The neutral Hydrogen gas, represented in blue, is overlaid on an optical image of the stars of the galaxy.
Observations of UGC 3697 - Webb Deep-Sky
2020年3月2日 · UGC 3697 is an edge-on spiral 'super-thin' galaxy with warped arms located approximately 151 million light-years away. Scientists believe the warping is the result of interaction with the dwarf galaxy UGC 3714, the (magnitude 12.6) round spiral galaxy below and to the left (east) of UGC 3697.
Integral Sign Galaxy (UGC 3697) - Cloudy Nights
2024年1月19日 · The Integral Sign Galaxy in Camelopardalis (UGC 3697) is a very thin edge-on spiral with a warped shape, probably due to the gravitational interaction with a companion galaxy, UGC 3714. The field contains also several very distant galaxies, including the galaxy cluster Abell 565 at redshift z=0.105, or 1.4 billions l.y. away (top left corner).
UGC 3697 - An integral in the space (Roberto Marinoni) - AstroBin
UGC 3697 is a galaxy in Camelopardalis constellation, called also “The Integral Sign Galaxy” due to its inusual shape. This edge-on super thin galaxy galaxy has magnitude 12.9 and dimension 3’x0.2’; it is located approximately 151 million light- years away.
UGC 3697 - Integral Sign Galaxy - Cloudy Nights
2023年3月3日 · Another often missed galaxy: UGC 3697, the integral Sign galaxy in CAM, named after its shape. A lovely edge on, accompanied by UGC 3701 (upper right, round, with some detail), and at least 4 small galaxies on its lower left (one of whom is mag 17,7, and one very small edge on without clear identifier.
The Integral Sign Galaxy - Astronomy Magazine
2024年1月1日 · Burbidge’s weird find is now nicknamed the Integral Sign Galaxy for its warped profile, and is cataloged in the Uppsala General Catalogue of Galaxies as UGC 3697. The Integral Sign Galaxy is an...
UGC 3697 (PGC 20348) - helixgate.net
Also known as the "Integral Sign Galaxy" due to its similar shape to the mathematical integral S symbol, UGC 3697 is also an example of a 'super thin' galaxy that exhibits a pronounced warped stellar disk that is believed to have been from a possible interaction with UGC 3714 located left in this image which is approximately 39 kpc distance.
