The Naval ROTC program at UNC-Chapel Hill offers students the opportunity to experience life at a four-year university while working towards a commission in the US Navy or Marine Corps. NROTC offers midshipmen a blend of civilian and military life, it is not meant to mirror life at a service academy.

We are a non-profit service organization supporting the NROTC Unit at the University of North Carolina. Our Association promotes the interests of the NROTC Program and its midshipmen alumni in many ways:

The UNC NROTC Alumni Association and UNC Department of Naval Science have teamed up again with Carolina Alumni to host the UNC NROTC Alumni Association 34th Reunion and 2024 Association Annual Meeting. Reunion events will be held Nov. 15-16 and will coincide with the UNC vs. Wake Forest football game.

Mission: To develop midshipmen mentally, morally and physically and to imbue them with the highest ideals of duty, and loyalty, and with the core values of honor, courage and commitment in order to commission college graduates as naval officers.

I called Col. Walt Fitts class of 1959 and asked him to help me do what George wanted. I believe he contacted Col. Dick Cashwell class of 1959, the UNC admissions director, and we were off. They compiled the initial list of UNC alumni that had been in the NROTC Unit since the beginning in 1926 and we drafted a letter for Col. Walls' signature.
