Essentially the thinking on A/B was correct, the classes 1/2/3 are all tolerancing, and if I thread a male UNJF thread into a female UNF thread I'll knock the peaks off the thread profile the first time that it goes in - if they were left intact by the tap in the first place that is.

anyone using ap racing balance bar? - FSAE.com
my push rod type is PRT (push rod threaded) 5/16"UNF while balance bar is CP5520-13 with clevises to suit 3/8" UNF push rods.. i need an adaptor in between to match the two threads with lock nut, which will also serve to adjust the length for minor adjustments,, does ap racing provide such a adaptor? i can even make one..
