U.S. Route 52 (US 52) skirts the western fringes of the U.S. state of West Virginia. It runs from the Virginia state line near Bluefield, where it is concurrent with Interstate 77 (I-77), in a general northwest and north direction to I-64 at Kenova.

US 52 will be closed between the intersection of WV 65 at Naugatuck and the intersection of US 119 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. Thursday, March 6, 2025, Friday, March 7, 2025, and Saturday, March 8, 2025, to allow the West Virginia National Guard to clean up storm debris.

US 52 began using today's WV 152 and WV 527 into Huntington. In 1936 or 1937, US 52 was rerouted at Mountain View to meet then-US 119 at the Mingo County line. Up to then they met at the Island Creek Bridge. About 1938, US 52 was removed from CR 11 between Bluefield and Brush Fork and sent directly to downtown Bluefield as it does today.

Starting just inside West Virginia, the new expressway built east of Bluefield carries US Route 52 on the north side of East River Mountain. Virginia, and the old road, is to the left/south.

US 52 crosses from Virginia to West Virginia while in a tunnel with I-77. Just beyond the tunnel US 52 exits to the right. There is no welcome sign on US 52, but one is visible on I-77 just beyond the exit. US 52 meets US 19 in Bluefield. US 52 winds through the West Virginia mountains.

A short stretch of the King Coal Highway has been built from I-77 to US 460, with stubs and clearing that curve north to parallel 460 until long bridges over US 19 (not yet built in 2013 when I visited).
