U.S. Route 278 (US 278) is a parallel route of US 78. It currently runs for 1,074 miles (1,728 km) from Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, to Wickes, Arkansas at US 71 / US 59, passing through five states in the process.

U.S. Route 278 (US 278), mostly internally designated by the Alabama Department of Transportation as State Route 74 (SR 74), is a major east–west U.S. highway across the northern part of the U.S. state of Alabama.

Interstate 278 (I-278) is an auxiliary Interstate Highway in New Jersey and New York in the United States. The road runs 35.62 miles (57.32 km) from US Route 1/9 (US 1/9) in Linden, New Jersey, northeast to the Bruckner Interchange in the New York City borough of the Bronx.

2024年8月23日 · US 278 was commissioned in 1951; that makes US 278 a relative latecomer to the US route system. At the time it functioned as an alternate route for US 78, connecting to that highway both at its west terminus (in Tupelo) and on its east (in Guin).

Beaufort County, in coordination with the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT), is proposing to make improvements to the US 278 corridor between Bluffton and Hilton Head Island, from Moss Creek Drive to Spanish Wells Road. This would improve the final segment of US 278 between I-95 and the Cross Island Parkway.

SCDOT is proposing improvements on I-95 from US 278 (Exit 8) to SC 336 (Exit 21). The purpose of this project is to improve capacity, mobility, and operations along the 13-mile corridor of I-95, and to address operational deficiencies for interchanges and bridges within the study corridor.

2017年8月21日 · US 278 skims across the top of the Savannah River Site. Activity at the site is a lot of cleanup and restoration, so perhaps one day US 278 could be routed through the site instead of around it, especially since some of the roads in the interior of the site are 4-lane.

The US 278 and Old Mill Road Improvement Projects will provide more efficient access to new developments in Morgan, Newton, and Walton counties. The improvement projects include roadway widening, construction of a new Frontage Road along I-20, and a new location interchange on I-20.
