Munition Support Squadrons (MUNS) are geographically separated units which are located over Europe. They are co-located on several main operating NATO bases and they are working together with their host nation wing. Their common strength varies between 125 – 150 servicemembers.

It’s the responsibility of Munitions Systems specialists to manage all aspects of nonnuclear munitions processes. Working with a high attention to detail, they store, assemble, account for and transport weapons systems to complete our missions across the world.

Munitions Systems specialists are enlisted airmen of the U.S. Air Force tasked with protecting, handling, storing, transporting, arming/disarming, and assembly of non-nuclear munitions. [1][2] The Munitions Systems career field is commonly referred to by airmen as "AMMO".

The munitions squadron stores, inspects, maintains, and accounts for the largest munitions stockpile in Pacific Air Forces and assembles and delivers these munitions to deployed combat aircraft during wartime or contingency operations. 36 MUNS is responsible for a vast storage area spanning over two separate Munitions storage areas.

Using guidance provided in the CFETP will ensure munitions systems personnel (military and civilian) receive effective and efficient training at the appropriate point in their career development. This plan will enable us to train today’s workforce for tomorrow’s mission.

2020年8月3日 · USAF Maj. Michael J. Lundy will assume command of the 1st MUNS, tasked with overseeing more than 200 Airmen and $82m in munitions stockpile. The move comes after the release of the Chief of Staff of Air Force’s vision to revitalize squadrons, develop leaders, and prepare for the future to achieve National Defense Strategy objectives.

The 9th Munitions Squadron, Air Force Combat Ammunition Center (AFCOMAC), manages and maintains a $35M munitions stockpile, 25 facilities, 71 vehicles, and 79 munitions equipment items used to conduct the Air Force’s sole Combat Ammunition Planning and Production (CAPP) and Senior Officer Orientation (SOO) courses.
