Air Defense Systems Technicians are qualified to perform and/or supervise the diagnosis, field-level repair, and modifications to electronic systems and sub-systems found within selected units within the Marine Air Control Group and the Marine Littoral Regiment.

The Marine Corps MOS 5979 is a Tactical Air Operations/Air Defense Systems Technician. These technicians install, align, test, and inspect systems used for tactical air operations. They may work with fiber optic cables, system software, and electronic assemblies and subassemblies.
