USS Salt Lake City (CL/CA-25) of the United States Navy was a Pensacola -class cruiser, later reclassified as a heavy cruiser, sometimes known as "Swayback Maru" or "Old Swayback". She had 11 battle stars for the eleven engagements she participated in. She was also the first ship to be named after Salt Lake City, Utah.

The U.S.S. Salt Lake City CA25 website was established in August of 1999 It is "dedicated" to her and to ALL the brave men that served aboard "The Swayback Maru" "The Queen of the Sea" & "The One Ship Fleet"

USS Salt Lake City, a 9100-ton Pensacola class heavy cruiser built at Camden, New Jersey, was commissioned in December 1929. Her original hull number, CL-25, was changed to CA-25 in July 1931....

USS Salt Lake City (CA 25) alongside USS Markab (AD 21) at Dutch harbor Alaska on 29 March 1943. The cruiser is being repaired after being damaged in the Battle of the Komandorski Islands three days earlier.

It became apparent that the Task Force with the Salt Lake City was close by as the carrier USS Enterprise planes had tried to come into the Ford Island Naval Air Field that night. They were easily identified in the searchlights but trigger-happy gunners shot them down killing and wounding some of our finest aircrews.

Salt Lake City (CL-25) was laid down on 9 June 1927 by the American Brown Boveri Electric Corp., a subsidiary of the New York Shipbuilding Co., at Camden, N.J.; launched on 23 January 1929; sponsored by Miss Helen Budge; and commissioned on 11 December 1929, at the Philadelphia Navy Yard, Capt. F. L. Oliver in command.
