She then began conducting Neutrality Patrols off the east coast, ranging into the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Yueatan, and continued these duties through the spring of 1940.

She escorted USS HORNET & USS ENTERPRISE on the Doolittle Raid and earned two battle stars (Midway & Guadalcanal). VINCENNES was lost during the Battle of Savo Island on November 2, 1942.
