The Department of Music, a part of the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences, offers training in performance, music education, composition, music theory, musicology, conducting, jazz, and music industry studies.

The music department strives to enrich and inspire the human mind and spirit through the pursuit of excellence in creative activity, research, teaching, and service. The department offers both a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Music, with 11 concentrations.

Each year the Department of Music offers over 200 concerts and recitals featuring students, faculty, and guest artists. Our ensembles include large performing groups like the Razorback Marching Band and the Jazz Orchestra and smaller groups such as the Arkansas Soul Band and the New Music Ensemble.

The Bachelor of Music in Music Education degree is designed to engage students in rigorous and cutting-edge curriculum. From tactics in teaching music to students with special needs to integrating technology and non-traditional learning methods into music education, the program pushes students to think in new ways as future educators.

Introduction to academic study of Western art music, jazz, popular music, and world music. Students will gain experience in guided listening and in reading, writing, and critical thinking about musical cultures and their roles in society.

The Department of Music offers three undergraduate degrees in music: a Bachelor of Music, Bachelor of Music Education, and a Bachelor of Arts in Music. All degrees offer training in performance, theoretical studies, and pedagogical learning to help propel students into a variety of exciting career paths.

The Department of Music offers a variety of degree and non-degree instruction. Undergraduate students choose between three degrees: Bachelor of Art in Music, Bachelor of Music Education, or the Bachelor of Music (concentrations in Performance, Theory, or Composition).

Introduction to the songwriting craft and profession by studying songwriting techniques, creating original songs, and exploring business aspects of the songwriting component of the music industry. No prior music courses or experience required. Instrumental, vocal, or music technology skills encouraged. (Typically offered: Fall, Spring and Summer)

Bachelor of Arts in Music, Bachelor of Music in Composition or Theory applicants may audition with one contemporary song selection with one song from the standard repertoire. Songs should be memorized and demonstrate technical proficiency, musicality, and an aptitude for success through continued study.
