Impending Arteriovenous Fistula Bleeding With Skin Ulceration
Our case shows an impending rupture of an arteriovenous fistula that, if left untreated, could have caused catastrophic hemorrhage. Endoaneurysmorrhaphy and plication remain viable treatment modalities to preserve a functional arteriovenous fistula, although this does require a period of temporary dialysis catheter use.
Experience with ulcerated, bleeding autologous dialysis fistulas
The ulcerated autologous dialysis fistula is a life-threatening lesion and requires prompt surgical intervention to reduce mortality. The frequency of this problem appears to be increasing. Simple suturing of the ulcers was not consistently effective in …
Innocuous-looking skin scab over an arteriovenous fistula: Case …
An arteriovenous fistula (AVF) is a crucial life line for patients with end-stage renal failure, and its preservation is paramount. Complications related to AVF such as puncture haematoma, pseudoaneurysm formation, venous hypertension, arterial steal, high-output cardiac failure, and ischemic neuropathy, can not only lead to the early loss of ...
Iatrogenic Arteriovenous Fistula as a Cause for Leg Ulcers: A …
An 80-year-old man presented with painful leg ulceration due to steal phenomenon from a groin arteriovenous fistula (AVF) 10 years following a coronary angiogram. The diagnosis of the AVF was confirmed by duplex examination of the groin vessels which demonstrated characteristic flow pattern in the femoral arterial and venous system.
Skin ulcer due to hemodialysis access-induced distal ischemia …
Nov 1, 2019 · Successful endovascular therapy to the occluded radial artery increased flow to the arteriovenous fistula (AVF), but not to the fingertips. Slightly compressing the AVF augmented the flow and wound blush at the wound sites on the 3rd fingertip, leading to a diagnosis of hemodialysis access-induced distal ischemia (HAIDI).
Outcomes of operative intervention for ulcers over hemodialysis ...
Introduction: The native arteriovenous fistula (AVF) is the gold standard for long-term hemodialysis access. When native vein options are exhausted, arteriovenous graft (AVG) becomes the next choice. An ulcer over an AVF or AVG is a serious condition with the potential for life-threatening hemorrhage.
Healing of venous ulcers secondary to an ankle arteriovenous fistula
Dec 1, 2015 · We report our experience in the management of venous ulcers secondary to an ankle arteriovenous fistula in a hemodialysis patient. Venous ulcer is a recognized complication of lower extremity arteriovenous fistula (AVF). These ulcers usually occur as a result of traumatic groin or thigh AVF.
Excision of Ulceration of Arteriovenous Fistula - AHA Coding …
