Icons (aka pictograms in uMap sources) can be used in your map markers. Icons are not embedded in uMap sources, you will have to add them manually. So you can choose which icons you want to use. You can use either PNG, JPG or SVG files. SVG files are recommended.

Options for modification are available on Map level (sets the default), Layer level and for individual markers. See Structure. The color of the marker icon is set by Option color ⇒ define. The dropdown menu for Icon shape shows 4 options. The effect is shown in next picture.

One possible implementation for the icon it would be to have svg images, that the symbol of the icon does not support, or simple png, and the transparency would be get from the png.
