the Promontory was built in 1962 by the St. Louis Car Company as postal storage car no. 5779. It is the newest car in Union Pacific’s Heritage Passenger Fleet. the car was renamed the Promontory in 1993, and was converted to a museum car originally designed for the Wyoming-Idaho Centennial train.

The UPP 5779, a Baggage car, is seen is the late afternoon sun as it rolls by. The Inspection Special rolls into the Fresno yard, showing off the Flag car. I was walking along the train I looked in between these two cars, and was suprised to see writing on there. It reveled some history to the baggage car Promontory.
