2015年12月27日 · Eight UP GP30s (UP 804, 807, 809, 813, 815, 817, 820, 835) were leased to Kennecott Copper Corporation from September 1975 to November 1978 (along with four D&RGW GP30s and two ATSF U25Bs) for waste rock train service in Kennecott's giant Bingham Canyon mine near Salt Lake City.

The sole purchaser of B units (by the mid-1960s generally an outdated concept) was the UP, who kept the practice of running its locomotives in matched sets much longer than others. Thirteen of those GP30B units were fitted with steam generators for heating passenger trains, the only GP30s to receive them.

2023年5月6日 · The UP purchased 112 GP30s between 1961(800-875) and 1963 (700-735). The UP would also purchase 40 GP30Bs in 1963 (700B-739B) which were the only GP30Bs erected. The 844 is preserved at the Nevada Southern Railway Museum in Boulder City, CO.
