Over 600 movie theaters across the United States remain shuttered in the wake of the pandemic, with Regal Cinemas announcing the closure of 39 more. While some theaters will be repurposed or demolished, hundreds will site neglected and simply rot away.

In 1968, the building returns to its cinematographic vocation and the interior is refurbished to divide the large room into two. Three successive owners will manage the movie theatre. A fire in 1992 will end this cinematic adventure. Some groups will try to revive the theater, but their attempts are doomed to failure.

Le théâtre-cinéma Varia a ouvert ses portes en 1913 et les a fermées en 1986. Il s’agit de l’un des rares théâtres également orientés « cinéma » datant de l’avant-Première Guerre Mondiale. Bien qu’il possède une façade classée de style Art-Nouveau et d’un intérieur pour le moins esthétique, peu de possibilités de reconversion s’offrent à lui.
