The Heavy Tank T30 (Informal designated The Tiger Killer) was a World War II American tank project developed to counter new German tanks, such as Tiger I, Tiger II, and tank destroyers, such as the Jagdtiger, or Soviet heavy tanks, such as IS-2 or IS-3. The T30 was designed at the same time as the T29 Heavy Tank.

On the T-29, armor ranged from 4 inches on the hull to 11 inches on the mantlet, and a V-12 powered the tank. Vehicle speeds were 18 1/2 and 16 1/2 mph respectively. Although pilot models were begun in September 1944, typically the US Army Ground Forces didn't see the need for such vehicles, and the vehicles were only completed in 1947.

The Heavy Tank T30 was developed in response to the appearance of heavier German tanks in 1943-44, and was armed with a 155mm gun. The Tiger I had first been encountered by American forces fighting in Tunisia early in 1943, and clearly outclassed all existing US tanks.
