2007年8月23日 · Any thoughts on apple wood as knife scales? Got a burl free, but not sure whether to use as firewood or handles. I would stabilize. Apple is really neat, I have some spalted Apple that had a nice creamy red and white splaying going on.

2021年10月26日 · I use ash and apple and walnut (which it turns out I'm allergic to) and other local woods, and I just put linseed oil on at the end. I got three loads (the back of my Outback) of scrap cut off ash from a local Amish mill for $15 and have yet to get though it.

2013年12月27日 · In all honestly maple is the easiest wood that makes an acceptable handle. Its figure is described in a few ways. Curly means the grain has "fold" that reflect light differently in a someone random pattern.

2016年5月18日 · Straight-grained wood is nice to work with hand tools, but can lack visual interest. If you have a chainsaw (or a sharp hand ripsaw, and tons of patience ) you can slab up some of the crotch wood, which will have more interesting curly/burled grain. You may also encounter 'fiddleback' curled grain, mineral staining, and other interesting 'flaws'.
