Here are some photos of Utah Transit Authority's new GP40 (RP39-2C), numbered 901. The photos are at UTA's Warm Spring Shops in Salt Lake City on today October 6, 2014. It has apparently been on UTA since December 2013, but as near as I can tell, hasn't turned a wheel doing whatever it was purchased for.

Utah Transit Authority 901 is a 1991 Morrison-Knudsen RP39-2C locomotive. UTA 901 was built in September 1967 as Louisville & Nashville GP40 3025. After the merger of the L&N into Family Lines/Seaboard System the unit was renumbered to 6821.

The EMD GP39-2 is a 4-axle diesel locomotive built by General Motors Electro-Motive Division between 1974 and 1984. 239 examples of this locomotive were built for American railroads. Part of the EMD Dash 2 line, the GP39-2 was an upgraded GP39.

The GP39-2 was offered by EMD as a fuel-efficient alternative to their very popular GP38-2 model. This efficiency resulted from the use of a turbocharged 12-cylinder 645E3 diesel engine, as opposed to the non-turbocharged 16-cylinder prime mover in the GP38-2.
