Utupo will be returning to his alma mater and replacing Scott Meyer, who took the head coaching job at Long Beach Wilson. Meyer previously coached at University and Corona del Mar.

After returning home to Long Beach he started coaching at MIllikan, where he took a 1-9 team and turned it around instantly, into a 17-6 performer over two seasons, with a 10-2 Moore League record and a pair of playoff wins.
