The V-200 was essentially an enlarged version of the V-100 and utilized many components of the U.S. Army's 5-ton trucks. This version was designed to the specifications of the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) and entered service in 1968.

The V-200 APC is the most prevalent version in the Chaimite Mark 1 family of vehicles. The actual Portuguese name of the V-200 is Viatura Blindada de Transporte de Pessoal (VBTP). As can be evidenced by its appearance, the Chaimite is similar to the V100 Commando, LAV 150 and Dragoon vehicles.

The Chaimite is a 4 x 4 armored personnel carrier (APC), whose basic model is designated V-200. The Chaimite was developed in the mid-1960s and resembles the U.S. Commando 4 x 4 vehicles that first entered production in 1964. The Chaimite has an all-welded steel hull that protects crew from up to 7.62-mm small-arms fire.

Total production figures are ellusive but at least 10 000 vehicles of the V-100, 150 and V-200 variants were delivered by CGC, then the Textron Marine & Land Systems company. The M706 is currently replaced by the M1117 since 1999, but still in service in many countries.

The armour of this APC was capable of defeating rounds up to 7.62 mm NATO.
