The VAX 8000 is a discontinued family of superminicomputers developed and manufactured by Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) using processors implementing the VAX instruction set architecture (ISA). The 8000 series was introduced in October 1984 with the 8600, taking over the high-end of the VAX lineup.

The VAX 8200 is a mid-range VAX uni-processor system built around the VAXBI bus; it uses the KA820 CPU. It can support an optional UNIBUS adapter.

These systems expand users' choices and represent dramatic improvements in price and performance. All use the same VMS operating system - giving users access to more than 3,000 applications programs.

VAX 8200 family consists of a generic BI bus in which one or more CPU are located. The only VAX 8200-specific device is a RX50 floppy used as console media. NetBSD/vax also supports devices that can be connected to the BI bus, as described on the BI bus support page.

Case top and bottom have screened labels indicating the types of circuit cards inside; these suggest that the system has two CPU cards as well as disk adapter, UNIBUS adapter, and several cards of memory.
