
VF-53 - F-8 Crusader
In Mar 1944 CAG-14 and VF-14 deployed to the Western Pacific (Westpac) embarked in USS Wasp. During that deployment the squadron, among many other accomplishments, engaged enemy aircraft in the Marianas " turkey shoot" and returned to CONUS (San Diego) in Nov 1944 with nine "Aces." VF-14 was decommissioned in Jun 1946.

Fighter Squadron 53, or VF-53 Iron Angels was an aviation unit of the United States Navy in service from 20 July 1950 to 29 January 1971. Originally established as reserve squadron VF-721 on 20 July 1950, it was redesignated as VF-141 on 4 February 1953 and then redesignated as VF-53 on 15 October 1963.

Have a look at the airplane on the top of this post. It's a Vought F-8E Crusader circa September 21, 1968. It’s depicted in markings as it flew with U.S. Navy fighter squadron VF-53—the Iron Angels—while stationed on the aircraft carrier, USS Bon Homme Richard.*

2016年7月27日 · Four Crusaders of the VF-53 Squadron from the aircraft carrier USS Ticonderoga, sunk an enemy vessel with missiles and gunfire, thus initiating a war that did not end until 1973.

Visible on the flight deck and starboard elevator are 3 F-8E Crusaders from VF-51 (BuNo 149152) and VF-53 (BuNo 150853 and 150863) as well as two Skyraiders from VA-52. F-8E BuNo 149152 was damaged by AAA and shot down by a MiG-17 on 21 June 1966.
