Fighter Squadron 53, or VF-53 Iron Angels was an aviation unit of the United States Navy in service from 20 July 1950 to 29 January 1971. Originally established as reserve squadron VF-721 on 20 July 1950, it was redesignated as VF-141 on 4 February 1953 and then redesignated as VF-53 on 15 October 1963.

The VF-141 insignia (Iron Angels) is the same one that would be used by VF-53. The original Iron Angels insignia was approved for VF-141 in 1953 when the squadron was redesignated from reserve squadron VF-721. The squadron was redesignated VF-53 in October 1963 and the Iron Angels patch stayed with VF-53 until the squadron was decommissioned

During deployments a VRC (Fleet Tactical Support Squadron) detachment provides carrier-on-board delivery and is embarked aboard the carrier but is no real part of the Air Wing. These detachments are not listed below. Pearl Harbor, Hi.
