Also, it skips around in video much faster (when using cursor keys), but that can be also achieved in vlc by enabling "fast seek" option, which is disabled by default.

On my hardware VLC does not even run any 1080p video at all. it just plays the sound of the 1080p video. MPV runs everything perfectly.
