The EMD (Electro Motive Division) GP60 is a type of four-axle, 16-cylinder, 3,800HP diesel-electric locomotive built from 1985 to 1994, and marked one of the first 3rd-generation diesel locomotives built for the North American market.

The GP60 model proved to be popular with Western-based carriers initially, and were utilized on SP and ATSF high-speed intermodal service. NS acquired both GP59 and GP60 models. After the mega-mergers in the 1990s, the GP60s found themselves in new paint schemes and in service for new railroads such as UP and BNSF.
