The Volkswagen K70 is a four-door, front engine, front wheel drive sedan developed by NSU and marketed from 1970–1975 by Volkswagen after its 1969 acquisition of NSU.

The K70 was a small simple four door sedan or two door wagon that was originally designed by NSU. The car's modest inline four engine only produced 70hp. The car eventually gave way, in 1975, to the VW Passat and the Audi 80 .

Er kam im September 1970 auf den Markt. Vorher hatte Volkswagen ausschließlich Fahrzeuge mit luftgekühlten Heckmotoren gebaut.

2022年3月7日 · The K70 is the Volkswagen you’ve probably never heard of. The company calls it a ‘quiet game changer’, but the car was never destined to wear a VW badge. Instead, it was developed by NSU to be sold alongside the radical but troublesome Ro80. Indeed, the K70 was due to use a rotary engine, but NSU had a change of heart.

In an era of air-cooled, rear-wheel-drive and rear-engined VWs, the Volkswagen K70 stood out like a straight-edged imposter. Here was a car, launched in 1970, that neither looked like a Volkswagen, sounded like a Volkswagen or even drove like a Volkswagen. But it wore a VW badge, so it must have been a Volkswagen, right?

Volkswagen K70 will be the star of our ZeitHaus museum in January – an especially innovative model from 1970 turning 55 this year. The K70 ushered the beginning of Volkswagen’s transition from air-cooled rear-engined models to water-cooled front-wheel drive.
