2008年5月14日 · I have a VX-7R (300mw on 220) and can hit any 220 repeater within 50mi just fine using stock rubber duck. Sounds like Grog is an Icom or Kenwood user. Icom has put put some real crap in the past and how come Kenwood was on the brink of bankruptcy recently while Yaesu moved into a newer and larger building to keep up with the growth?

2002年4月14日 · My VX-170 is also submersible and has many of the same water tight features as the VX-8r. I just wish the VX-170 came with the Li-Ion batteries, it has the Ni-MH batteries instead, but at least they are a step above the old Ni-Cad..... I got my HT from The Antenna Farm, and for an extra $35.00 they did the xpanded Tx mod before shipping it out.

2008年5月14日 · There are 3 levels of mods for the VX-8R, just like the VX-3R and VX-7R. The first will not provide AM aircraft transmit on the VX-8R. Only a firmware update does this, level 2. Level 3 is a board level mod that will allow very limited high HF operation and other things at the expense of purity.

2009年5月22日 · VX-8R loose and plastic? Ha! I have the VX-8R and I cannot budge the battery pack when it's on the radio, and it's actually hard to remove. Others I have looked at are just as tight. 2009年11月29日 · Agree - 2 different radios. The link I posted allows the VX-8R to now become a VX-8DR, which will be available 12/29/09. I doubt the VX-8R upgrade will be free someday since Yaesu is charging 60 bucks. Makes me wonder if Yaesu isn't tweaking something else under the hood, like adjusting heat and/or speaker issues.
