The Villa Aurora, 520 Paseo Miramar, Pacific Palisades, Los Angeles, has been an artists' residence since 1995. It is the former home of the German Jewish author Lion Feuchtwanger and his wife Marta. The Feuchtwangers bought this Spanish-style mansion in 1943.

Villa Aurora, cleary visible as you drive down Sunset towards the ocean, was built as a 14-room Spanish Colonial Revival-style house of 6,700 square feet on a 19,000 square-foot lot. Arthur A. Weber, the investor, traveled to Andalusia and drew inspiration from the Teruel Cathedral in the vicinity of Seville.

Villa Aurora houses visual artists, writers, filmmakers, composers, and performance artists. In addition, the organization awards the "Feuchtwanger Fellowship" for up to six months to writers or journalists whose freedom of expression is suppressed in their own countries.

Marta found the Villa Aurora at 520 Paseo Miramar in the hills of Pacific Palisades, overlooking Santa Monica bay with breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean. She loved the Spanish style house among eucalyptus and palm trees with towering white walls, red roof tiles, balconies and the big yard she could turn into a blooming garden.

2023年11月30日 · The Pacific Palisades Democratic Club is hosting a docent-led tour of Villa Aurora. People are asked to assemble at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, December 7, for a 3 p.m. tour. Proceeds from ticket sales will go to PPDC and the Villa Aurora.

Complete with pipe organ, thick timber-beamed ceilings and miraculous sea views, the villa hosted salons of European artists and intellectuals in exile – folks such as Bertholt Brecht, Charles Chaplin and Thomas Mann – and later served as a base for Marta's political activism.

The Villa Aurora is truly a hidden gem in Los Angeles. Initially built in the 20s by the Los Angeles Times as a demo house for new building technologies, the Villa Aurora was purchased by Marta and Lion Feuchtwanger who were escaping Nazi Germany.
