The Vinaya texts (Pali and Sanskrit: विनय) are texts of the Buddhist canon (Tripitaka) that also contain the rules and precepts for fully ordained monks and nuns of Buddhist Sanghas (community of like-minded sramanas). The precepts were initially developed thirteen years after the Buddha's enlightenment. [1] .

Kumārajīva’s own Vinaya teacher, is said to have edited the text, reworking it into 61 fascicles and changing the title of the last section or recitation from shansong (善誦; Good Recitation or Well Recited) to binisong (比尼誦; Vinaya Recitation; variant: biqiusong [比丘誦]; Bhikṣu Recitation).
