Located in a suburb to the north of Brighton. The Gaiety Cinema was opened on 24th April 1937 with Fred Astaire & Ginger Rogers in “Swing Time” and a documentary “The King’s People”. Designed in an Art Deco style by architect Frederick W. Morgan of Pinner, Middlesex, Seating provided in stalls and circle levels.

Vogue Gyratory - Brighton and Hove Revisited
The junction of Lewes Road, Bear Road, Hollingdean Road, and Upper Lewes Roads is known as the ‘Vogue Gyratory system’ after the former Vogue Cinema. Built as the Gaiety in 1937 in the grounds of the then Allen Arms, the cinema had a fifty-foot high neon-lit façade.

For one week sometime around 1971 they packed away the smut and the fleas and showed a double bill of The Wizard of Oz and Tom Thumb - the real films, not X-rated remakes.
