2018年9月23日 · The first Volvo to be officially imported to the U.S. was the 1956 PV444. That two-door fastback featured a floor-shifted three-speed manual gearbox linked to a 1,414cc four-cylinder engine, which featured three main bearings and twin SU carburetors and made an impressive 70hp.

The 444 was the first small Volvo car and the one that really set car production at Volvo moving. In August 1958, the Volvo PV544, the more modern successor to the PV444, was introduced. The changes were the most extensive since the PV444 had been presented in 1944.
