With the approach of World War I, ROTC was established at Virginia Tech. In January of 1917, Infantry ROTC was established followed shortly by Engineer and Coast Artillery. During the war, Virginia Tech became an army post. Cadets were inducted and became enlisted men of the Student Army Training Battalion and its Navy detachment.

The VTCC Museum, located in the Corps Leadership and Military Science Building, is open to the public most weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The VTCC Museum began in 1985, when then-Commandant Lt. Gen. Howard M. Lane asked Col. Joseph Reich ’75, then a captain and an Air Force ROTC detachment instructor, to start a Corps museum.

2025年2月6日 · These are good introductory (yet thorough) histories of the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets (VTCC). The University Archives maintains many official records, photographs, artifacts, uniforms, and publications of the VTCC and alumni.

Cadets were attending college year round during World War II, necessitating the addition of a lightweight summer uniform. This uniform, adopted in the summer of 1942 consisted of a gray poplin long-sleeved shirt, and trousers in matching gray twill cotton.

Since the end of World War II, Virginia Tech's students have been primarily civilians, although the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets has maintained a strong presence on campus, carrying on the rich military traditions of the school.

Prior to the union of the Corps of Cadets and the Civilian Student Body in 1966, a president of the Corps was elected annually. During the period of World War II, some cadets were unable to serve a full term. Names with an * indicate the cadet served part of the year.
