Extending the Life of a Workhorse Warhead
As with the W80-4 LEP, the planned replacement program for the W78 represents an important opportunity to extend the warhead’s service life and incorporate modern safety and security features. The W80-4 is the first U.S. warhead designed for use with a new carrier since nuclear testing ended in 1992.
