A TOPS survey of early 2000 lists 100 WIA wagons, suggesting that 40 Cartic sets were modified (the other 60 being the Arbel-built WIA-A covered car carriers). 364 PJAs were in stock in 2001, this being the complete MAT and SILC fleet less those converted to WIA.

2024年4月25日 · Revolution Trains is to produce ‘OO’ and ‘N’ gauge models of the WIA car carriers. Sixty five-car double-deck sets of the enclosed wagons were ordered in 1994 by Railfreight Distribution in anticipation of the Channel Tunnel opening that year.

The WIA car carriers were designed to offer complete protection and are double-decked – the entire roof canopy can be raised or lowered as one unit to aid loading and unloading.

2023年8月10日 · The WIAs were designed for Channel Tunnel automotive traffic, but were never used for that purpose, operators preferring open wagons. When the new flow of cars from and to Toton was developed the use of WIAs was discounted, partly because they potentially provide a very handy hiding-place for migrants.
