The Tseung Kwan O Desalination Plant (TKODP) is one of the strategic infrastructures by WSD in its mission to provide reliable and adequate supply of wholesome potable water which is not susceptible to climate change.

2023年12月21日 · The first stage of the Tseung Kwan O Desalination Plant (TKODP) will be commissioned for supplying water tomorrow (December 22), providing a new and stable water source that is not susceptible to climate change.

The Contract comprises the laying of a 1200 millimetre (mm) diameter fresh water main of about 10 km in length, connecting a proposed desalination plant at Tseung Kwan O (TKO) to the existing TKO Fresh Water Primary Service Reservoir, and associated works.

The project will provide the first stage of the proposed seawater desalination plant using reverse osmosis at Tseung Kwan O (TKO) Area 137. The plant will have a water production capacity at 135,000 cubic metres (m 3) per day with provision for future expansion to the ultimate water production capacity up to 270,000 m 3 per day.

Various demand management measures are being implemented by the Water Supplies Department (WSD) to contain the fresh water demand growth in Hong Kong. Under the Total Water Management Strategy promulgated by WSD, desalination shall be used as one of the methods to diversify water resources in Hong Kong.
