One of the most thrilling uses of the Jeep, was performed by British and Allied LRDG units, "Long Range Desert Group" in North Africa. Often paired with Chevrolet WB trucks, they were heavily armed and received a lot of extra fuel.

2016年5月14日 · Western Desert SAS Jeeps. The Special Air Service was formed in July 1941 by David Stirling. It was a commando force that would operate behind enemy lines in the North African desert. Initially it consisted of five officers and 60 other ranks.

The regiment's famous motto is "Who Dares Wins" and the regiment's history dates back to WWII. The idea of creating a desert raiding force to weaken Rommel's supply lines and disrupt aircraft operations was conceived by Captain David Stirling (right) while recovering in hospital from a parachute training accident.

6 天之前 · While the Pink Panther is a very cool and effective vehicle and would be useful to many in the shadows of the SAS halls, I am interested in WW2 historically, and so I think the LRDG Willys Jeep is more the flavour of the sim (at least as I fly it).

These jeeps had a variety of armament fits, commonly using a twin Vickers K gun on the passenger side. Some of these served as a pattern for later armed British jeeps, notably the airborne jeeps that were armed with single Vickers K guns.
