Du Bois was the primary organizer of The Exhibit of American Negroes at the 1900 Paris Exposition, held between April and November 1900, for which he compiled a series of 363 photographs aiming to commemorate the lives of African Americans at the turn of the century and challenge the racist caricatures and stereotypes of the day.
