2010年4月29日 · Mink oil for one, is not even made from Mink. It is processed pork fat or made synthetically. It permeates the leather and is used primarily on leather workwear (leather construction boots, etc) to keep salt from ruining the leather in winter.

2013年8月14日 · I contacted Schott and they say that they do not recommend a particular brand, but they did say that 100% pure mink oil would be good to use. So I have been reading about the different kinds of oils and many people seem to find the smell of mink oil to be distasteful. I’m not ruling out using mink oil, but I was wondering about the other oils.

2010年11月27日 · Normally, I would advise against using mink oil on any dress shoe. But thanks to the generosity of Rider, I tried some Renovateur. It's OK. I don't think there is a lot of mink oil in it and/or what there is may be highly homogenized. That said, I don't think I would use it on dress shoes all that often. It does seem to have a bit of a greasy feel.

2016年2月22日 · Regarding differences between mink oil and Saphir Renovateur. I have used plain old Kiwi mink oil on my shoes for 30 years. Never had any bad consequences. (This is NOT the Kiwi mink oil with added silicone that is formulated for boots - just regular old Kiwi mink oil).

2010年9月15日 · The chromexcel is indeed oil treated, the only instance in which I would use mink oil. In other applications it can leave a terrible buildup and leave a leather surface sticky and destroyed, but it is just the right thing for any oil treated leathers and particularly on the chromexcel. I have found Saphir Renovateur to be perfect for my boots.

2007年3月31日 · Mink oil is the exact same stuff, just taken from a different animal and rendered into oil. It's not as if minks have some oil gland that is harvested or anything. It's just back fat from the mink, melted down and processed.

2010年4月29日 · Mink oil is, in fact, made from the fat of the mink. If it were made from pork, the oil would be much whiter and harder. Mink oil is used because it penetrates the leather much better than other oils. Beware though: it also darkens many leathers. It's also a bit sticky even after wiping off the excess.
