In 1927, Fritz Lang's Metropolis was released; the Maschinenmensch ("machine-human"), a gynoid humanoid robot, also called "Parody", "Futura", "Robotrix", or the "Maria impersonator" (played by German actress Brigitte Helm), was the first robot ever to be depicted on film.

2025年1月9日 · In 1961 Condec Corp. (after purchasing Unimation the preceding year) delivered the world’s first production-line robot to the GM factory; it had the unsavoury task (for humans) of removing and stacking hot metal parts from a die-casting machine.

The first modern robots The earliest robots as we know them were created in the early 1950s by George C. Devol, an inventor from Louisville, Kentucky. He invented and patented a reprogrammable manipulator called "Unimate," from "Universal Automation."

The world’s first humanoid robot was named Elektro. It was developed by the Westinghouse Electric Corporation and was unveiled at the 1939 New York World’s Fair. Elektro stood about two metres tall, weighed approximately 120 kg, and could perform 26 different movements.

2019年7月3日 · George Devol invented the first digitally operated and programmable robot in 1954. This ultimately laid the foundation of the modern robotics industry. Around 270 B.C. an ancient Greek engineer named Ctesibius made water clocks with automatons or loose figures.

2023年10月19日 · The first modern robot was made in 1810. It was a soldier with an automatic bellows (a device with an air bag that emits a stream of air when squeezed together with two handles, used for blowing air into a fire) that could blow a trumpet.

2024年7月25日 · Leonardo Da Vinci made one of the first recorded attempts to design a humanoid robot. He had sketches of a mechanical knight that was capable of sitting, waving its arms and moving its head. At the time, it was a groundbreaking design.

George Devol and Joe Engleberger design the first programmable robot ‘arm’. This later became the first industrial robot, completing dangerous and repetitive tasks on an assembly line at General Motors (1962).

General Motors installed the first robot to work in a factory in 1961 to move pieces of hot metal. Unimate was an autonomous, pre-programmed robot that repeatedly performed the same dangerous task. In 1966, Shakey the Robot is invented at Stanford.
