2025年1月8日 · PACIFIC PALISADES —The devastating Palisades Fire destroyed historic buildings and multiple structures at two California State Parks last night, including Will Rogers’ historic ranch house and buildings at Will Rogers State Historic Park (SHP).

Will Rogers State Historic Park was the private ranch of the world famous movie star, radio personality, columnist, philosopher and American Cowboy, Will Rogers. In the early 1930’s, Will Rogers was the popular and highest paid actor in Hollywood.

Eventually, the Rogers’ owned 186 acres overlooking the Pacific Ocean, in what is now known as Pacific Palisades. The ranch became the place where Will Rogers could relax with his family and friends, pursuing his favorite pastimes of riding and roping.

Growing up in Indian Territory as a Cherokee Native (Present day Oklahoma), Will came from a simple and humble background. Thanks to Will’s love for entertaining and land conservation, Will Rogers State Historic Park Museum goes beyond the movie star and shows the many aspects of Will Rogers’ passions.

The volunteer docents at our park lead tours of the Will Rogers historic ranch house and the historic ranch grounds. They work with visitors from all around the world and “all walks of life.” They also conduct research related to Will Rogers, his ranch, as well as his life and times.

Will Rogers State Historic Park is located in Pacific Palisades, overlooking the Pacific Ocean. It was the home of Will Rogers, his wife Betty, and their three children from 1928 to 1935.

The Department has completed the Equestrian and Livestock Management Plan. The Plan contains guidelines and standards to govern equestrian activities at Will Rogers State Historic Park.
