The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air: Created by Andy Borowitz, Susan Borowitz. With Will Smith, James Avery, Alfonso Ribeiro, Tatyana Ali. A streetwise, poor young man from Philadelphia is sent by his mother to live with his aunt, uncle and cousins in their Bel-Air mansion.

Will Smith is a street-smart African-American teenager, "born and raised" in West Philadelphia. While playing street basketball, Will accidentally hits a group of young people with the ball, causing a confrontation that frightens his mother, who sends him to live with his wealthy aunt and uncle in the opulent neighborhood of Bel Air, Los Angeles.

William "Will" Smith is the titular protagonist of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. He is portrayed by Will Smith. Will is originally from West-Philadelphia, however, he was forced to move soon after participating in a fight with a couple of "thugs" at the basketball court. Fearing for his safety, his mother sent him out to Bel Air, Los Angeles.

The character of Will Smith is loosely based on the life of Warner Bros. executive Benny Medina as well as the actor who plays him of the same name (although in the show 'Will' is short for William, while in real life it is short for Willard). Smith's charming and mischievous personality earned him the nickname "Prince," which eventually became "Fresh Prince".
