The Boeing 707 is an early American long-range narrow-body airliner, the first jetliner developed and produced by Boeing Commercial Airplanes. Developed from the Boeing 367-80 prototype first flown in 1954, the initial 707-120 first flew on December 20, 1957. Pan Am began regular 707 service on October 26, 1958.

The infamous “short” 707 only ordered by QANTAS. 10 feet shorter than the -120. Since 707’s are built with 20-inch frames, that means it’s 120 inches/20=6 frames shorter than a 707-120. Using the tried-and-true “window-counting method” you get 3 frames removed from ahead of the wing, 3 frames behind. 10 feet shorter=more range.

2010年3月3日 · one thing I have noticed is that American appears to be the only carrier who has put windows in the forward lavs of their B707/720s. AA 707s were also among the very few with only 2 turbocompressors (like 720s).

2016年2月10日 · Eyebrow windows were a feature of the original 707 and 727. They allowed for greater visibility in turns, and offered better sky views if navigating by stars. With modern avionics, they became redundant, and many pilots actually placed newspapers or other objects in them to block out sun glare.

Windows are spaced at 20-inch intervals to insure an unobstructed view regardless of seat spacing. This flexibility permits a choice of seating combinations ranging from the luxurious four-abreast interior to the six-abreast, 149-passenger tourist arrangement.

The 707's width and 100-foot length made it the largest passenger cabin in the air at the time. Placement of its more than 100 windows allowed airlines to rearrange seats. Location of passenger doors on the left side, at the front and at the rear of the cabin, became standard for subsequent Boeing jets.

707-120: 69 of the first production 707s were built, with a longer fuselage and greater wingspan than the original Dash-80. A full set of rectangular cabin windows was included for the interior, which was capable of a seating 179 passengers.
