2020年6月3日 · The F.W. Woolworth and Company, most often referred to simply as Woolworth’s, was a mainstay of small-town main streets for many decades. It was a significant part of Rhinelander’s Brown Street as well. Historian Gary Entz as the story:

This three-story, brick-veneered building was constructed for Otto A. Hilgermann in 1915 ("New Store Block for Rhinelander," New North, July 29, 1915, p. 1). It is a Prairie School commercial building with decorative brickwork, and terra cotta panels ornamented with geometric designs.

Woolworth was located in the north storefront from 1927 until at least 1936 (Rhinelander City Directories). The Oneida Hotel is a good local example of a Prairie School

Rhinelander’s historic Brown Street district has seen many storefronts come and go throughout the years, such as the Majestic Theatre, Campbell’s Clothing Store, the Fenlon Hotel, JCPenny, Woolworth’s and many more.

2023年10月19日 · Downtown Rhinelander, WI in the early to mid-1950s. The C&NW depot and yard are in the lower portion of the photo. The Atlas Plywood plant that closed in 1958 is at the end of the wye track. A 1953 aerial photo with a scale of 60,000 barely shows the roundhouse. But you can at least see its shadow.
