I'm wondering if steel gurus like Ankerson have ever tested Wootz to see how it stacks up against today's top-tier supersteels (S90V, M390, M4, etc.).

2021年10月12日 · Wootz in particular has some interesting properties, but it is not inherently superior to any modern homogeneous blade steel. Read that thread Jerrod linked, it will reveal much. Jerrod is, by the way, a professional metallurgist.

Roselli claims to have recreated wootz with its UHC (Ultra High Carbon) blades, and there may be some others. The original wootz ingots came from India, and the ore apparently had a small (but significant) vanadium content.

2009年7月8日 · a W1 or 10xx series of steel would have been a better choice !... but you use what you have, and at the time in the location i was at... a known plain carbon steel was just about impossible to buy locally, so i settled ( by the way... the higher the alloy, the lower the melt temp... so a pure steel with about 1% carb would be sweet )
