Introduction. In late December of 2014 D.L. Roy and Pamela Harrington generously donated a 3.5-acre property to West Virginia Cave Conservancy (WVCC), a non-profit West Virginia corporation, containing the only accessible entrance to Hancock Cave in Smyth County, Virginia.

The total length for the Bone-Norman System is 14.12 miles long and approximately 200 feet deep. Norman Cave is formed in the Patton and Sinks Grove Limestones and its development makes for multiple levels, with a major stream running in the lowest level.

In addition to the fee simple parcel, the purchase also included the right to travel through any cave passage accessible from the cave entrance that extends under the seller’s remaining land.

Richard J. Bantel donated an acre parcel to the WVCC, fee simple, in 2008. The parcel is roughly square, with the cave entrance located at the base of large cliff on the north side of the property.

Commercial Use. The Board of the West Virginia Cave Conservancy, Inc. bans the commercial use of its properties and specifically prohibits any activity where a charge or fee of any type occurs.
