WXYZ-TV was created out of ABC-owned radio station WXYZ (1270 AM, now WXYT). In 1962, ABC commissioned designer G. Dean Smith to create a proprietary logo for its owned-and-operated stations, known as the "Circle 7". This logo has since expanded into use by many ABC stations not owned by the network. It predates Paul Rand's ABC logo by 4 months.

Retained after The E.W. Scripps Company acquired WXYZ-TV from Capital Cities/ABC. 1995 variant, without the ABC logo. WXYZ-DT3 Laff -affiliated ID (2015–present). Note the 1981–1993 Columbia Pictures opening logo. WXYZ-DT2 ID (2012–present), this was never updated from Bounce TV's original position on WXYZ-DT3.

WXY is a multi-disciplinary agency for the built environment focused on creating equitable, vibrant, and healthy buildings, places, neighborhoods, and systems. Claire Weisz, FAIA, and Mark Yoes, FAIA, founded WXY in 1998. Partners Layng Pew, AIA, and Adam Lubinsky, PhD, AICP, joined them in 2006 and 2011, respectively.
