W most of the time will have a different color screw from X and Y(should be silver, hots brass). the ground wire if you have it should be connected to the metal box if present, or capped.

2012年1月17日 · Problem: Smaller generators tend to have only a 3 prong 120v receptacle, which don't play well with the 4 prong power transfer box. I thought of simply making a 3 wire to 4 wire cable & "jump" the x & y leads to give 120 to both sides of the panel. Of course, the well pump would HAVE to be off for this to work.

2012年6月20日 · When the appliance lists two voltages (x/y), it usually means it requires BOTH voltages to operate, NOT EITHER one (x) or the other (higher) . It's like saying, you require cold AND hot water at your sink faucet, however you need only cold water to your toilet, and only hot water to your dishwasher... A 208v socket may have just 208v and not 120v.
