The new specially tuned TD Mark II engine was adopted for the TF model in 1953. The TF had a cylinder head depth of 75.16mm for the higher compression ratio of 8.1:1 and was designated XPAG/TF. A year after production, MG released the TF 1500 with a 1466cc version of the XP-engine, now known as the XPEG.
