Xiaolu Guo FRSL (Chinese: 郭小橹; born 20 November 1973 [2]) is a Chinese-born British author, filmmaker and academic. Her writing and films explore migration, alienation, memory, personal journeys, feminism, translation and transnational identities. Guo has directed a dozen films including documentaries and fiction.

Xiaolu Guo is a novelist, essayist and filmmaker. Her novels include A Concise Chinese-English Dictionary for Lovers (shortlisted for the Women’s Prize for Fiction), Village of Stone, and I Am China.

The work of Xiaolu Guo both plays with the globalization of literature and rebukes it. A writer and filmmaker, she has spent the past fifteen years working in English on books and films that take on the distance between England, where she moved in 2002, and China, where she was born in 1973 (she has since worked in New York and Berlin as well).
