XIST - Wikipedia
Xist (X-inactive specific transcript) is a non-coding RNA transcribed from the X chromosome of the placental mammals that acts as a major effector of the X-inactivation process. [5] It is a component of the Xic – X-chromosome inactivation centre [6] – along with two other RNA genes (Jpx and Ftx) and two protein genes (Tsx and Cnbp2). [7]
XIST RNA Gene - GeneCards
Dec 25, 2024 · XIST (X Inactive Specific Transcript) is an RNA Gene, and is affiliated with the lncRNA class. Diseases associated with XIST include X Inactivation, Familial Skewed, 1 and Collecting Duct Carcinoma.
Xist localization and function: new insights from multiple ...
Aug 15, 2015 · We discuss recent advances in our knowledge of Xist-mediated silencing, focusing on Xist spreading, the nuclear organization of the inactive X chromosome, recruitment of the polycomb complex and the role of the nuclear matrix in the process of X chromosome inactivation.
Xist RNA in action: Past, present, and future - PMC
Xist RNA is the master regulator of X-chromosome inactivation (XCI), the epigenetic process that equalizes the dosage of X-linked genes between female (XX) and male (XY) mammals.
Long noncoding RNA XIST : Mechanisms for X chromosome ...
In this manuscript, we summarize the current knowledge about the mechanisms for XIST -mediated XCI and the roles of XIST in sex-biased diseases, and discuss potential therapeutic strategies targeting XIST. Keywords: Epigenetic regulation, Long noncoding RNA, Sex-biased diseases, X chromosome inactivation, XIST.
A lifelong duty: how Xist maintains the inactive X chromosome
Aug 23, 2023 · Female eutherians transcriptionally silence one X chromosome to balance gene dosage between the sexes. X chromosome inactivation (XCI) is initiated by the lncRNA Xist, which assembles many proteins within the inactive X chromosome (Xi) to trigger gene silencing and heterochromatin formation.
XIST directly regulates X-linked and autosomal genes in naive ...
Jan 4, 2024 · We found that XIST spreads across the X chromosome and induces dampening of X-linked gene expression in naive hPSCs. Surprisingly, XIST also targets specific autosomal regions, where it induces repressive chromatin changes and gene expression dampening.
